Ingredients for ven pongal :
Raw rice -150 gms
moong dal - 75 gms
cashew - 10-15 nos
pepper - 1 tsp
cumin seeds - 1.5 tsp
ghee - 5 tsp
asafoetida - 1/4 tsp
curry leaves
salt to taste

Ingredients for Kandhar appam:
Raw rice - 200 gms
urad dal - 2-3 tsp (raw rice & urad dal soaked 1/2 an hour)
jaggery - 200 gms (or) 250gms
coconut - 1/2 cup
cardomom - 4 nos
oil to fry
